Pomegranate

2025 – A 12″ x 16″ oil painting of a pomegranate cut in half. The background……

The challenge to this painting was the layering. In order to create the contrast between the pomegranate seeds and the inside skin I had to wait for each layer to completely dry. There is such great contrast between the two colors and a lot of hard edges in the inside to were blending wasn’t good enough to establish shapes.

If I had to do this painting again, I would start with the darks first then layer to the highlights because red is already a dark color and mixing deeper shades can be challenging.
