Traveling Postcards
October 2022 – A set of three postcards that encourage Delta Airlines travelers to explore a new place. This project was about making images of different travel destinations that graphically harmonize with the visual identity of Delta Airlines (fictional project). The images also needed to create a sense of place and hold a cohesive graphic language so that they were a cohesive series. In essence, it is about unity and variety with an established visual system. The images needed the viewers’ attention, while the postcards needed to offer information about the location and airline company.
My approach to image-making was both digital and analog, digital image montages, and hand-painting my own illustrations. The typography and color needed to be consistent to maintain unity, which is a key element in corporate identity, while the image content and approach to their creation required variety to maintain visual interest and authenticity to the location. Each postcard was conceptually approached as follows; The Netherlands postcard used illustration (known for its tulip fields), New York experimented with collage (common location found in the city), and Italy implemented paintings (morning cafe experience).
