love is a mix tape book cover

February 2023 – A redesign of the book love is a mix tape by Rob Sheffield. The objective was to experiment with Photoshop effects, my own reference images, and typography. For each design, I greatly considered the color palette used. The illustrations and photography used on the cover correspond with the events in the story.

Each book cover looks different from the other which allows variety and helps determine what effects capture the book the most. The mixtape represents the music that the main character and his wife had a similar interest in. The tulip was used to show love yet the petals are ripped off to mimic his lover’s death. A wear effect is applied to some of the covers to show the main characters destroyed love and the fact that they would replay their lover’s music repeatedly to remember them.
