Wolf Spider Slab Box

December 2023 – A 7″ x 3″ x 4″ clay wolf spider box that is functional. The objective was to choose an animal or insect that I liked and place it somewhere on the box. The spider sits on the top of it to remain structurally sound. The chosen green glaze enhances the carved pattern on the spider’s body and leg joints.

This was my second time creating a clay box and with some creative freedom, I chose to create a rectangular shape with an insect that can be both scary and beautiful.

The challenging part of the project was to time everything efficiently. Creating the shape of the box first limited the time I had to work on the spider. The spider legs were fragile and dried out fast resulting in cracks.
