Umbrella Woman Reel

2025 – An animation reel featuring a woman floating down a landscape inspired by a previously made woodblock print, combined with the style of Japanese paintings.

Throughout this project, I learned the basics of digital drawing and 2D animation. Using programs like Adobe Fresco and After Effects. I visually liked the colors and style of Japanese woodblock prints, specifically of women, and wanted to replicate it to help me learn how to produce it on my own.

This project was a learning curve for me because I had to think of everything from a different perspective. When digitally creating the woman, I had to consider layering, masking, and textures while also thinking about how to export my finished products correctly to animate them through a different program.

The original artwork that I am referencing is “Young Woman Jumping from the Kiyomizu Temple Balcony with an Umbrella as a Parachute”, Suzuki Harunobu, 1765.
