Aphrodite Stamp

June 2023 – A 6″ stamp featuring a sculpture of Aphrodite and a white (or red) Damask Rose. The sculpture of Aphrodite was created by Praxiteles in 330 BCE, and the fully nude sculpture was considered risky when shown to the public. It was a breakthrough in the art scene. The Damask Rose is affiliated with Aphrodite from birth (white) to danger (red).

This stamp was created because it’s a medium I hadn’t given much thought to, yet found fascinating when I saw other people show their finished products. I chose Aphrodite as my subject because I found the art associated with Greek mythology to be beautiful.

During the process of carving the stamp, I reflected the image and used tattoo transfer paper to place the image on the rubber.
