Kasey Musgraves
March 21, 2020 – A 12.5″ x 17″ mixed media painting. Watercolor was used for the shape of the face and background while colored pencils were used for finer details and texture. The objective was to get more comfortable with watercolor.
During the time of this painting, I knew that I made very little pieces from watercolor and thought that I should practice more so that I wasn’t so intimidated. I knew that faces were hard in general to draw so I made it a little easier for myself by making the painting B&W. The contrast between the darkest points (hair, eyes) and the lightest (skin) gives the painting a timeless feel and the softness of the background contributes to this as well.
