Rainy Day in the City

March 2, 2022 – An 18″ x 12″ charcoal drawing of a window view looking out into a city. The objective was to create the illusion of a faded background with up-close details to create depth. The blurred lines of the city buildings along with the crisp ones along the raindrops create this effect.

Adding shadows and highlights to the raindrops creates the illusion of a reflection and a three-dimensional element. Using toned paper was new for me but was encouraged to be used from by my professor to enhance the highlights.
